Color and Learn: January 2026 Japanese Calendar
Celebrate the start of the year with our interactive January 2026 calendar coloring page!
This isn’t just a coloring activity; it’s a window into Japanese winter culture and language learning.
As you color the snowy landscape, you can practice reading the Japanese characters (Kanji) for the days of the week.
Explore Japanese Winter Culture
In this illustration, you can see children enjoying traditional winter activities.
One highlight is the Kamakura (かまくら), which is a Japanese snow hut similar to an igloo.
Historically, these huts were built to house small altars for the water gods during winter festivals.
Japanese Vocabulary Spotlight
- Gatsu (月): This Kanji means “Month” or “Moon.” 1月 (Ichi-gatsu) is January!
- Yukidaruma (雪だるま): This is the Japanese word for “Snowman.” Interestingly, “Daruma” refers to a traditional round lucky doll, which is why Japanese snowmen are usually made of two large snowballs instead of three!
- Days of the Week: Look at the top of the calendar grid. Each day is represented by an element: Sun (日), Moon (月), Fire (火), Water (水), Wood (木), Gold/Metal (金), and Earth (土).
