Japanese Vocabulary Spotlight
- Gatsu (月): This Kanji means “Month” or “Moon.” 1月 (Ichi-gatsu) is January!
- Yukidaruma (雪だるま): This is the Japanese word for “Snowman.” Interestingly, “Daruma” refers to a traditional round lucky doll, which is why Japanese snowmen are usually made of two large snowballs instead of three!
- Days of the Week: Look at the top of the calendar grid. Each day is represented by an element: Sun (日), Moon (月), Fire (火), Water (水), Wood (木), Gold/Metal (金), and Earth (土).
